Just touched down in UK, back from a 3 week tour with Ziggy Marley in USA...
Was a pretty special and humbling Experience. Me, Jahmel(bass + snare) and Bear(guitar + Kick) boarded a plane 3 weeks ago for the recently mad and previously mystical land of Pea Deepu(Amerikka-in the Paiute language, meaning motherland). We landed in LA.... wow! THis place is just like the movies. Our first morning felt like we were on the set of white men cant Jump(venice Beach) and everywhere along the beach I see some real characters. It seemed like every1 who had a stall selling all sorts of things lived in a tent or a van on the beach. One guy I see with a van that looked like sumn out of transformers with about 3 sattellites on the van, wires coming out of it plugged into diff computers, he looked like some kinda secret service guy, but when i approached him to see what was going on, he was tracking whales and dolphins.... Respekt!
1st gig we plaed was in an old greek theatre on top of a mountain in "wine country" and the response was amazing, that set the tone of the whole tour. Ziggy's crew were mad cool. Ziggy himself has a real peaceful aura about him, was a nice vibe just being around man like that. The band and crew were all really accomodating as well, many of them legends in their own right. Special mention to Sky High... He made sure we were well looked after for the whole trip. A blessed elder with a warm heart. Was Bob's right hand man back in the day, so when it got to that time of night after the show, I couldnt wait for another of his stories.
We did 15 shows in total... crossed 1 border(wow-that was fun!!) and travelled what seemed like thousands of miles. Check out the photo album and you will see some of the landscapes on our long drives through Amerika. Jason was the one behind the wheel... he is a propa down-south-type-mam-machine from tennessee. The longest trip we had to make was 18 hours!! and he did it all by himself...Raspekt.
I cant say there was a favourite show, cos they were all special in different ways. However I will never forget the last show we did... I gotta tell you bout it.... we had a really good show, and we were pretty emotional cos it was our last show, and we had such good times, but the lighting engineer looked like some1 had spiked his drink, cos there were lights going everywhere, it didnt look very good, but then when Ziggy started singing I shot the sheriff.. the Spirit of Bob actually came into the room... I saw it, and when I turned around to the other guys they looked at me and from their faces I knew they saw it 2. So now I can I-fficially say I seen Bob Marley live... an i dont care what any1 says cos we all saw him.
Met a Native American couple after a gig one day and listened to their sad story, I met a guy who started the "occupy" campaign on the west Coast, he was madly passionate about the right things, met an Ethiopian princess/athlete..?? ...Oh yeah and I saw a real live Bear walking through the streets of Aspen... Yeah... it was massive!! Anyway give thanx 4 the experience, whenever we needed a warm bed to sleep a free hotel room would appear, whenever we needed herbs there was some round the corner, whatever we spoke of seemed to manifest like a mystic, it is not often I encou nter times like those, But that trip around USA with Ziggy Marley was most Definately something special. Give thanx and praise to the Creator H.I.M for all this. Now I back in UK looking to put finishing touches to the album... 2012 here we Go!!!
